“Rickmurai Jack” is a strong close to Rick and Morty’s fifth season, truly leaving the possibilities for the future unknown, although it has led to some interesting fan theories about Rick and Morty season 6. After returning to the Citadel to de-age his Morty, Rick and Morty are summoned by President Morty (who was revealed as Evil Morty in “The Ricklantis Mixup”) who reveals his plan to destroy the central finite curve. The final episode of season 5 finds Rick abandoning the crow anime life he undertook in “Forgetting Sarick Mortshal” to return to the Smith household.

The side plot of Summer being stuck inside the car instructed to keep her safe is also full of some hilarious moments. The existential dread that the entire universe may only be the car battery of a higher species is a Lovecraftian theme of sci-fi horror Rick and Morty frequently explores in its best episodes, and “The Ricks Must Be Crazy” is a prime example. When Rick goes inside the battery and meets with the alien civilization’s top scientist Zeep Xanflorp (voiced by late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert), he discovers that Zeep has created his own microverse (miniverse as he refers to it) and is drawing power from it. In this episode, viewers discover that Rick’s car is powered by an alien civilization that lives inside the car’s battery in a microverse.

The episode also featured the first appearance of Evil Morty, who would go on to become the central villain of the entire series. This episode is the first time audiences see the vastness of the multiverse presented by the show, and fans are treated to wacky versions of our central heroes, including Doofus Rick and Hammer Morty.
